Jazz is basically the early 20th century's version of Hip-Hop. Many of the qualities in Jazz (on-the-spot improvisation, rhythms, battles, musicianship, etc.) are found in today's Hip-Hop, all the way down to comparisons in the Fashion cultures of Jazz and Hip-Hop. The late jazz great Nat King Cole will be releasing a remix album called Re: Generations. Now, I could type out the concept, but this YouTube video says it all. After you watch the video, please listen to these tracks....they don't disappoint at all. I'm glad this made some of the hip-hop blogs and can only hope that more projects like this are done in the future.

NEWS FLASH: ROOTS IN A BUS CRASH!!!!!!

The Roots' bus tipped over in Belgium, but everybody is ok. After the crash the response was immediate. They were taken to a nearby hotel as a sort of staging area. From there, two opted to go to the hospital for X-rays, the bassist Owen Biddle was having trouble lifting my right arm. Only minor stuff," he says. But the crash didn't stop the show. The Roots are back on the road headed to Paris to open for Kanye.

Since all of us over at CLIFF NOTES are close friends of the band, we wish them the best and hope that everything goes smoother in the future.

THIS IS MY ISH!!: THE ROOTS ft. Wale & Chrisette Michelle "RISING UP"

I'm lovin this joint right now.  If you all know me, then you know how I love live hip-hop bands, and that The Roots are some of the illest, from way back, when Scott Storch was on the keys, lol. Anyways,  The Roots bring it on this track... Black Thought rips it. Chrisette Michelle, who is SO DAMN FINE, lays the hook down so sexy-like. Questlove and the whole band sounds ridiculously tight.  Now I've heard a good amount of stuff Wale put out, and truthfully, I knew he could spit, but I wasn't really into him like a lot of people have been (sidebar: you can ask Chip (WHAT UP CHIP!) He and I have had numerous hip-hop debates about Wale).  However, I can't lie... Wale murdered this track.  With all the tracks I've heard, I can't wait to go out and cop this new Roots album "Rising Down"
