Hip-Hop artist Marvwon has been reppin Detroit to fullest in every way possible. With a Mixtape out alongside another Detroit hip-hop great, Quest M.C.O.D.Y, and an album on the way, Marvwon is putting his own stamp on hip-hop. I was blessed to be able to do an interview with the self-proclaimed "freshest fat nigga ever" and see what's on his mind:
Skighwalker: So what has Marvwon been up to thus far in 2008?
Marwvon: Let's see...FINALLY finishing up this album...trying to secure distribution for said album...and building my shoe collection...yaknow...regular stuff!!! lol

SW: What is your opinion on today's state of hip-hop?
M: I'm not mad actually...a lot of people have their opinions...as do I...I just take it for what it is...a business. A lot of the people who have gripes with the current state of hip-hop are people who aren't relevant or can't adapt. I know my position and my core audience...so...that's who I cater to...hip-hop is pretty good to me right now! I LOVE H.E.R.

SW: How did you get your start rappin'? When did you know that this was something that you want to do?
M: I've been rappin' forever it seems. I started taking it serious when I was 16...thats when I knew this is what I wanted to do with the better part of my life in some shape, form, or fashion. I got started by being the butt of jokes!!!! LOL!!! I had to defend myself...and since I was always witty...the battling came easy...and voila...a star was born

SW: You've definitely been a rap battle heavyweight (no pun intended…I'm a big dude too, haha) in the last few years. What would you say has been your best and /or worst battle (win and/or loss)?
M: hmmmmmm.....every battle that I've won has been the best in some way. They've all help shape me into the artist that I've become. the worst...I dunno...has to be this past November in new york. My man Quest M.C.O.D.Y competed in an international contest that I feel was stacked against us...that hurt...I needed that bread...I think I had some shoes on hold at Burn Rubber I couldn't get! lol

SW: Can we expect an album from you anytime soon?
M: Hell yeah! I'm about 60% done with the album...I got a vinyl ep coming out on Fat Beats this year...then...it's on like hot buttered popcorn son!

SW: I got a chance to peep the "We In Here." "McNasty Filth" is probably one of the dopest tracks I've heard thus far, and I'm glad to see cats like you and Quest Mcody do it justice…where did the concept for that track and the video come about?
M: Well...the beat is just a monster! We had to do something to it! The vid came from being in the studio with Miz Korona and being drunk! We were just like..."Screw it! it cant hurt!" And it came out dope! Big ups to my man Chanes for that!

SW: That fitted that you had on was pretty nice. What is it and where did you get it from? LOL!
M: Ha! It was an exclusive Burn Rubber boy! My peoples Rick and Ro own the hottest shoe boutique in the state...so when they got their plug with new era and the hats came in...I IMMEDIATELY cashed out for one! I support any young black man doing something positive...and it was hot son! I had to keep my fat and fresh rep alive!
