THE BEGINNING OF THE END

(this picture is a preview of The Hundreds x Disney collection)

Well if any of you know me, I am never one to shy away from a heated discussion about anything. I am willing to debate (dont like using the term argue, because people think negatively about that word for some reason) any topic I feel strongly about, and this is one of those topics!!!

Let me begin by saying, not to blow my own horn but I have been down with these streetwear (for lack of a better term) brands since the mid 90's when I was a young whipper snapper. I started rocking ECKO (yes ECKO was once underground) when they only put out cargo's and TEE's and only 6 stores in the country even carried them!! (side note, I still have the first LRG hoody and just gave a my last DS one to my girl) My point being is that these brands that we all rock will eventually blow up to huge levels. Ecko, LRG, Akademics all did it in the past, and its easy to see that it will happen again with certain brands now (Crooks, 10DEEP, Hundreds, etc).

The top brands that you wear today will eventually sell out and be in Kohls and Macy's (sans ALIFE and staple because they dont not need to). Try and think about 10 DEEP being like Abercrombie, seems wack right?

Now please dont get me wrong, I am not mad that these brands are going to stray from their original plan and vision to ultimately stack MAJOR bread, we all do that! I am upset that it seems to keep working and people keep falling for it!! 10 year cycles seem to be about right for street wear to be absorbed into the popular mainstream. That’s when the first “big names” jumped into department stores and became available to the masses.

So my prediction is that you will see a major decline in the creativity (its already happening) in street wear for most brands. There will be less fly shit in the next couple of years, finally hitting bottom in 2010-2011. You can already see it, teenage Gossip girl/The Hills watching white girls buying dunks to rock with their American Apparel V Necks and stretch pants. Dudes in their early teens rocking crooks tee's with AEROPOSTAL cargo shorts, the hipster look (super tight jeans, v necks, dirty hair and sneakers) making its way into the normal pre teen fashion wardrobe....smh @ them.

I would like to clarify this again, I am not "SALTY", I am not mad, upset or emotional, I am let down and disappointed. Disappointed that the larger market influencers will deem it ok to jump off course and lose vision to make that mean green. I say go make your bread, but don’t be mad when they make you change colors and imagery to “better fit the retail landscape” or when my 10 year old cousin buys your latest TEE from AJ WRIGHT…..

(comment and let me hear what you think....)

  2. I dont see thehundreds selling out for the reason that they built their foundation & following from scratch. Crooks & 10deep will def see LRG money.
But there will always be up & coming brands with heat regardless.
